Tel Aviv attack raises tensions

The latest suicide attack in Tel Aviv, which left nine people dead, has sent tensions between Israelis and Palestinians soaring. Around 60 others were wounded in the blast which ripped through a sandwich bar near the city’s old bus station. A witness said a security guard stopped a young man and asked him to open his bag. The device then exploded. Two Palestinian militant groups, Islamic Jihad and the Al Aqsa Martyr’s brigades, initially claimed responsibility.

Later, Islamic Jihad released a video of a youth it said was the bomber. A statement he read out warned of further attacks in the future. The sandwich shop had been the target of a suicide attack in January in which only the bomber died.
