Suicide bomber kills two Afghans at ISAF base

A suicide attacker has detonated a car filled with explosives outside a base of NATO-led peacekeeping troops in Afghanistan.

An Afghan guard outside the base and an Afghan policeman were killed as well as the bomber, according to the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force At least seven Afghans were wounded in the blast in the western city of Herat, as was an Italian civilian working at the base. A Taliban commander told reporters by telephone that the bomber was a Taliban fighter. On Friday a suicide car-bomber killed himself and wounded three Americans in Lashkar Ghar, capital of the southern province of Helmand. Taliban attacks have been largely confined to the south and east, but in recent months the militants have appeared to be extending their operations into the west and north.
