The US Secretary of State has admitted that the United States made multiple mistakes in Iraq but insisted that the overall strategy was the right one. Condoleezza Rice was speaking in Blackburn, in the north-west of England, the home town and constituency of British Foreign Secretary Jack Straw. She said: “I know that we made tactical errors, thousands of them I am sure. This could have gone this way or that way but when you look back in history what will be judged is, did you make the right strategic decisions and if you spend all your time trying to judge this tactical issue or that tactical issue I think you miss the larger sweep.”Around 250 anti-war protesters gathered outside a school she visited. Many of them were from Blackburn, where about 20 per cent of residents are Muslims. During her speech, Rice touched on a number of US foreign policy issues, saying America had no desire to be the world’s jailer and that Washington wanted the terrorists that they captured to stand trial.
