Israel’s Interim Prime Minister calls together his cabinet ahead of Tuesday’s elections in which his party, Kadima, is widely tipped to win. Ehud Olmert confirmed he would hold talks with the US and other countries before any unilateral withdrawal from the West Bank.This after describing next week’s ballot as a referendum on a plan to evacuate isolated settlements and strengthen larger enclaves if peace efforts go nowhere. The Palestinians have said such moves would deny them the viable state they seek. Security has been stepped up in Israel ahead of Tuesday’s ballot. Latest opinion polls put Kadima in first place, ahead of the Labour and Likud parties.
