Banned Batasuna responds to ETA ceasefire

Banned by Spanish authorities for refusing to condemn ETA violence, the Basque nationalist party Batasuna has been giving its reaction to news of the ceasefire. A statement was delivered in Basque, Spanish and French by the group, which is considered to be ETA’s political wing.

Its spokesman said the governments of Spain and France must act to promote the development of a democratic process, the start of a process of dialogue and political negotiation in which the key element would be respect for Basque citizens’ right to decide their future.
