Hamas finalises cabinet line-up

Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh has completed the line-up of a cabinet to be approved by Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.

Haniyeh, who is prime minister-designate, is thought to have put senior members of the militant group into key ministries. Despite the fact that Hamas has been unable to persuade Abbas’ Fatah movement to join it in government, analysts say the president is unlikely to reject the new cabinet after it is presented to him on Sunday. His aides were quoted as saying he would put pressure on Hamas to make changes to its government agenda, which calls for resistance by any means to end Israeli occupation.
