A heated protest has been held in Delhi against the imminent visit of the US president. Tens of thousands of people have gathered in the centre of the Indian capital to denounce what they call the warmongering policies of George W Bush. Most of them are reported to be Muslims. The focal point of their anger is American actions in Iraq and Afghanistan. Muslim and left-wing groups have planned more demonstrations during Bush’s three-day visit, which is due to begin later on Wednesday. It is his first trip to the world’s most populous democracy, and one that could see friendly bilateral ties upgraded to a strategic partnership.
