Police in Spain have arrested a man who could become a key witness in the trial of former Serbian President Slobodan Milosevic. Veselin Vukotic from Serbia is wanted for at least three murders, including the 1990 assassination of a human rights leader apparently probing alleged abuses by Milosevic.

He was arrested at Madrid airport travelling on a false passport. If he co-operates, Vukotic’s testimony could strengthen the case against Milosevic who is standing trial at the Hague. When human rights activist Enver Hadri was shot dead, he was said to be carrying papers that tied the former president to the murder of 34 people.
