A second Israeli air raid in 24 hours in Gaza has killed a key figure in Islamic Jihad, along with another gunman say security sources. The attack came hours after an Israeli was stabbed to death on a bus and five others were injured. Two missiles were fired at two cars , killing Adnan Bustan, the radical Palestinian’s explosives expert, and the alleged leader of a rocket squad.
Islamic Jihad was quickly joined by other groups promising swift revenge, and a crowd of several hundred supporters gathered outside the morgue to chant “Death to Israel”, and “Death to America”.
This weekend has seen the worst bloodshed since Hamas won the Palestinian elections at the end of January. However, under pressure from Washington on Sunday Israel handed over some 50 million euros in customs duties that it collects on its behalf to the Palestinian Authority. However it is not clear whether this will continue once Hamas takes control.
