Scandinavians criticise lack of security in Syria


Copenhagen and Oslo have both condemned Syrian authorities for allowing the protests to take place. While police used water cannons on demonstrators outside the French embassy and cordoned off the United States’, they appeared powerless to protect the Scandanavain pair, despite the Norwegian’s demand for extra police.

Sweden’s Foreign Minister, Laijla Fraivaldar said: “the important thing for us is to express our serious concern and protest against the Syrian government because they’re not fufilling their responsibility to protect our foreign service staff.” There were more peaceful protests elsewhere, from London to Tehran, where the Islamic republic is considering the future of its trade ties with Denmark and Norway, and any nation whose press has reproduced the cartoons.
