Tough words on Iran from US and Germany

At a security conference in Munich, the leaders of Germany and the US urged the world to work together for a diplomatic solution to stop Tehran’s nuclear programme. But they stressed that something concrete must be done.

US Defence Secretary Donald Rumsfeld said: “The Iranian regime is today the world’s leading state sponsor of terrorism. The world does not want, and must work together to avoid a nuclear Iran.” German Chancellor Angela Merkel said: “Iran has deliberately crossed the red line, and I have to say that the totally unacceptable provocation of the Iranian president requires a reaction.” Merkel said Germany had learnt from its history, and Iran’s president cannotexpect any tolerance when he questions Israel’s right to exist or the holocaust.
