France is investigating a possible case of bird flu in a woman who has recently returned from Turkey where the disease has killed at least four people.

Health officials said an initial test carried out on the 32-year-old was negative and that further tests were underway. She is being kept under observation in a hospital in the southern city of Montpellier. The woman had spent two weeks in the Tarsus region which is not known to have been affected by the virus according to French authorities. Paris recently strengthened precautions against a possible outbreak on French soil.
