The Hungarian authorities have confirmed that 44 people have died and only one person has survived an air crash involving a military plane.

The craft was carrying mostly peacekeepers and came down in a densely forested and mountainous region near Budapest. The plane had been en route from Pristina, the capital of Kosova to Kosice in Slovakia. The one survivor was taken to a local hospital, nothing is known about his condition. The search for more survivors had been hampered by the terrain making helicopter landings almost impossible. The Slovak authorities said those on board were troops from KFOR, the peacekeeping force in Kosova. It is still unclear what caused the incident alhough it^s been reported that the craft caught fire before crashing
