At least 22 dead as bomb blasts hit Baghdad

Two simultaneous bomb blasts have killed at least 22 people in central Baghdad. It is believed one device hidden in a vehicle went off as an Iraqi police patrol passed, while a suicide bomber apparently went into a coffee shop and set off a bomb. It happened just hours after security measures were stepped-up in the Iraqi capital as the government gets ready to release the results from last month’s elections.

Meanwhile the US military has said it has no plans to speed up the process of releasing Iraqi women held in custody. Gunmen holding US journalist Jill Carroll hostage have said they will kill her unless the female prisoners are released.
