There have been scenes of joy tinged with sorrow at amine in West Virginia where relatives have been waiting for news of a missing team of workers. It is reported that 12 men missing following an explosion underground have been found alive. But rescuers earlier recovered the body of a miner who had not survived. For the families and friends of the men, one way or another, the terrible wait is over.Hundreds gathered at a nearby Baptist Church to support each other through the long uncertain hours. There had been no communication with the miners since they were trapped by the explosion at 6.30 on Monday morning. It is understood the one man whose body has been found was working seperately from the others. It is thought the initial explosion broke seals in the mine which stop bad air and poisonous gas from circulating in the shafts. Rescuers are describing the turn of events as a miracle. They were clinging to the hope that the men had sought a safe way out from the shaft.
