Massive posters across Austria showing the Presidents of France and the United States engaged in sexual acts with Britain’s Queen Elizabeth have created outrage.
They are now being taken down but how the posters managed to get put up in the first place is taking up a lot of column space in Austria’s newspapers.
It turns out artists from across the EU were commissioned by the Austrian government to come up with a series of posters to “reflect on the different social, historical and political developments in Europe.”
It has not been the best of starts for Chancellor Wolfgang Schuessel as his country prepares to take over the EU presidency for six months on January 1.
The art project called “euroPART” cost a million euros. Most of the 150 works caused little controversy but three did, alienating the public, politicians and women’s groups.
