Communist Cuba has rolled out the red carpet for the next leader of Bolivia who is making his first foreign trip since triumphing at the ballot box earlier this month. Avowed socialist Evo Morales makes no secret of his admiration for Fidel Castro. The two men have known each other for years. And the 79-year-old Cuban president was at Havana airport to greet Morales with a warm embrace.
Morales is due to be sworn in as Bolivia’s first indigenous president in January. He is the latest Latin American leftist leader – in line with a trend that is leaving his veteran Cuban host less and less isolated in the region. “It appears the map is changing,” Castro told reporters.
