A former German government minister, Juergen Chrobog, has been kidnapped along with his wife and three children in Yemen. Germany’s Foreign Ministry has confirmed that the former junior minister and four family members are missing. A Yemeni official said the group were seized during a trip from the port city of Aden to the eastern Shabwa province. One of their captors told reporters by phone that they were safe, but said their lives would be in danger if force was used to free them. He said he hoped the kidnapping would put pressure on the government to free five members of his al-Abdullah tribe who are in jail on criminal charges including murder.
