Palestinians protest over kidnapped Briton

There have been demonstrations in the Gaza Strip over a British aid worker who was kidnapped along with her parents. Kate Burton, 25, was showing her visiting parents around the border town of Rafah when they were abducted by gunmen on Wednesday. Palestinian authorities have so far failed to identify the kidnappers but British diplomats are reportedly working on the family’s release.

One of her colleagues at Palestinian rights group Al Mezan says: “She was trying to make contacts with Israeli organisations to provide assistance to the Palestinian and Israeli jails.” The abduction is the latest in a string of kidnappings that have undermined the Palestinian authorities’ attempts to establish order in Gaza following Israel’s withdrawal three months ago.
