Ariane 5 rocket blasts off


The latest Ariane space rocket has been launched from its base in French Guyana. Once in orbit, Ariane 5 will launch two satellites, one for telecommunications the other for weather forecasting.The INSAT satellite has been designed and built by the Indian Space research organisation in Bangalore. The coverage will extend over the entire Indian sub-continent. The MSG 2 weather satellite is part of the European Space Programme. It is capable of transmitting images every 15 minutes.Its job will be to help forecasters predict the weather in Europe and neighbouring regions.This is the final Ariane mission of 2005, following four successful flights during the year.
