Majority of Spaniards back smoking ban

Latest research has revealed the majority of Spaniards support a new law imposing a strict ban on smoking. More than 75 per cent say they are in favour of the legislation – in a country where tobacco is the primary single cause of death.

The law comes into force on January 1. Lighting up will not be allowed in public places or in the office. Smoking will also be forbidden in bars, cafes and restaurants. But necessity is the mother of invention, or so they say, and inventors are already coming up with ingenious methods to beat the ban.
