Saddam Hussein has refused to return to court for the continuation of his trial for war crimes. The hearing in Baghdad is due to hear testimonies from two more witnesses, but during an outburst in court, the former Iraqi dictator told the judge to “go to hell” and described the hearing as unjust.
It is not clear what will happen. Testimonies were heard from witnesses who gave evidence from behind a curtain for fear of reprisals.
The witnesses were cross-questioned and interrupted by Saddam as they spoke. Saddam and seven others are accused of crimes against humanity over the killings of 140 men from the Shi’ite village.
All have pleaded not guilty.
