Authorities in France say a couple suspected of kidnapping and raping a young girl have admitted a dozen other sexual assaults on minors and attempted abductions.
Police say the 36-year-old man and his partner made the statements while being questioned about the disappearance of a six-year-old girl.
The child was released after a big police manhunt. She was allegedly held at a house in a village in the western region of Maine-et-Loire.
“It appears that sometimes the couple offered to look after children of people they knew,” said the region’s crown prosecutor. “It’s under these circumstances that acts were committed.”
The young girl at the centre of the case was allegedly kidnapped on Sunday from a parking lot in the town of Jallais and then set free a day later after her photo was released by the police.
