Ethnic rioting leaves two dead in UK

An 18-year old man has died after being shot close to the scene of riots near Birmingham in central England. Two men have been arrested over the incident. His death is the second in as many nights of rioting between the black and Asian communities, triggered by a claim that a 14-year old Caribbean girl was raped.

Police have not received any formal complaint regarding the alleged crime and say the violence has been fuelled by “rumour, myth and speculation”. On Saturday night, the rioting culminated in the stabbing of a 23-year-old man who later died. Dozens of people have been injured after youths torched cars, smashed shops and threw petrol bombs. Several victims remain in hospital. Police say quiet has now returned to the area.
