Merkel set to be named German Chancellor

The political limbo in Germany appears to be over, with Angela Merkel set to become the country’s first female Chancellor.

According to media reports and political sources, her Christian Democrats and Gerhard Schroeder’s Social Democrats have reached a deal on a coalition government, after talks that went on into the night. It comes over three weeks after the most inconclusive election result in postwar German history.
