A well-known TV presenter in Lebanon has been seriously wounded in a car bomb explosion in Beirut. May Shidyak, a news anchor on the LBC network, has been taken to hospital with arm and leg injuries. A series of explosions has rocked Lebanon since the February bombing that killed former Prime Minister Rafik al-Hariri. Police say an explosive device appeared to have gone off inside Shidyak’s car in the north of the city. The journalist presents the news and a political programme on the Christian-owned LBC channel, which has long been critical of Syria’s influence over Lebanon.
