Safe emergency landing for passenger plane

A US airliner carrying 140 passengers has made a successful emergency landing in Los Angeles. As television viewers across the world watched live, the JetBlue plane with crippled nose gear landed at the city’s International Airport.

It had been circling the coast for over two hours to burn off fuel. The pilot discovered he had a landing gear problem shortly after the Airbus A320 took off from nearby Burbank, California. The flight was bound for New York where the carrier JetBlue is based. Fire and emergency crews were standing by to await the landing. However, after a spate of air disasters in recent weeks, the aviation drama had a happy ending. A stairway pulled up to the aircraft and passengers left the plane, to be whisked to a nearby airport terminal. There were no immediate reports of injuries.
