N. Korea demand hits nuclear deal

What was hailed as an historic deal with North Korea looks to be in jeopardy after the nation outlined conditions for giving up its nuclear weapons. After long-running talks involving six countries, a set of principles was agreed on dismantling Pyongyang’s nuclear programmes in return for aid and security guarantees.

Now however, in a move that appears to significantly undermine Monday’s accord, North Korea has revealed it won’t give up its nuclear arms until the United States provides civilian atomic reactors. Washington says the condition is not in line with the deal that was signed, while Japan is reported to have called the North’s demand “unacceptable.”
