European citizens are encouraged to be more aware of their everyday transport during mobility week.

Not using a car is central to the campaign to encourage alternatives for getting about, like taking a bike or walking, and using public transport, both to cut down on pollution and traffic congestion and to promote physical fitness. European Commission vice president Margot Wallstrom and a band of colleagues set an example, riding to work. She is now in charge of institutional relations and communication strategy but she used to be responsible for policy on the environment.
