Power down in LA

Los Angeles suffered a power outage on Monday to thousands of homes, businesses, and administrative centres, including police headquarters and the airport.

Chaos ensued at crossroads where traffic lights went out, and workers were stuck in lifts in the central business district. Security services went on high alert as the power cut came just 24 hours aftera warning the city was about to targeted by terrorists, but the electricity was quickly restored to most areas, although as yet there are no indications as to why the system went down so spectacularly. One theory was that construction workers had accidentally cut a power line, which tripped two fail-safe switches, but this is still being investigated.
