US President George W. Bush has been continuing his tour of the storm-ravaged city of New Orleans. After spending the night on the warship USS Iwo Jima, he visited some of the city’s worst-hit neighbourhoods and praised early clean-up efforts. “The de-watering is an indication that the city is moving forward. But I repeat we have a lot of work to do,” he said. Floodwaters now cover half of the city, with pumps diverting toxic waste into Lake Pontchartrain. New Orleans International Airport is expected to open to limited passenger service tomorrow.
