Probe into reports US troops shot journalists in Iraq

An investigation is underway in Iraq after US soldiers reportedly shot two journalists working for the Reuters news agency, killing one and wounding the other.

There were distraught scenes as relatives recovered the body of sound records Waleed Khaled. The pair’s car was hit by gunfire as they drove to report on a shooting in Baghdad. The US ambassador to Iraq, Zalmay Khalilzad: “Sometimes mistakes are made. And when they are made we investigate and then report on our findings. This is an unfortunate adjunct that goes along with military operations that sometimes mistakes are made.” Khaled’s colleague, cameraman Haider Kadhem, who was wounded in the back said he was detained for several hours by US forces after the shooting.
