“Nuclear technology is our right”: one of the tamer messages to be shouted out at a student protest in front of the British embassy in Tehran. “Death to Britain, death to America” were some of the blunter slogans hurled at the building along with tomatoes, potatoes and stones. The demonstrators were expressing their outrage at European and United Nations efforts to stop Iran’s resumption of uranium enrichment activities.Earlier this month bombers targeted the offices of two British companies in the capital. Iran’s line on the nuclear issue is not likely to soften with President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s nomination today of a string of hardliners to his first cabinet.
