Radical Muslim cleric Omar Bakri Mohammed has been detained by authorities in Lebanon, according to a security source there. It comes just days after he arrived in Beirut from London.

The source gave no reason for the cleric’s detention. Syrian-born Bakri holds Lebanese citizenship, though he has lived in Britain for 20 years. He left the UK on Saturday after Downing Street pledged to silence radical Islamists. He said on Tuesday he was merely taking a holiday and planned to return, contradicting associates. Bakri was picked up on his way to give a local television interview, according to the source in Beirut.
