The Estonian prime minister said there was no hope for survivors after a helicopter carrying 14 people came down in the Baltic Sea. Debris from the aircraft has been found at the crash site. Estonian officials say it sank with everyone on board still inside.
The helicopter was on a scheduled commercial flight from Tallinn to Helsinki. It plunged from the sky shortly after take-off from the Estonian capital.
In addition to the Finnish crew, there were 12 passengers on board – six Finns, four Estonians and two US nationals. Heavy weather and gales had prompted storm warnings in the area.
But poor weather has been ruled out as a factor in the crash by Copterline, the aircraft’s owner.
It also said the helicopter was technically in very good shape.
