The wife of fugitive Bosnian Serb leader Radovan Karadzic has urged him to give himself up to the UN war crimes tribunal. “I find it painful and hard to ask you, but I beg you with all my heart and soul to surrender,” Ljiljana Karadzic said in a plea shown on Bosnian Serb television. It was an unprecedented move from a woman who has always backed her husband. However she said her family was under constant pressure. Earlier this month, the couple’s son was detained by NATO troops for ten days,on suspicion of providing support to his father. Karadzic and his equally elusive military commander Ratko Mladic are accused of genocide over the 1995 Srebrenica massacre in which some 8,000 Muslim men and boys were killed.
