London bombings suspect held in Zambia

As British police continue to hunt those behind the July 7 London bombings and the failed attacks two weeks later it is claimed a key suspect has been arrested in Zambia.

Zambian officials have been quoted as saying British-born alleged militant Haroon Rashid Aswat was detained after crossing over the border from Zimbabwe. British diplomats have not confirmed the identity of the man and are waiting to visit him. Aswat was named as a suspect in the days after the bombings which killed 56 people. He has been sought by the US since 1999 when he allegedly tried to set up an Al Qaeda training camp in Oregon Police have arrested nine people in Tooting in south London in connection with the four attempted bombings of July 21. However three of the four suspected would-be bombers are still on the run. One is said to have escaped police after fleeing through a house in west London. As Britain’s biggest ever manhunt continues the authorities have warned of more possible attacks.
