Summer danger on Mont Blanc

The mountain looks beautiful but it is never more dangerous than right now.

Mont Blanc may have claimed another four lives, with two French and two Spanish climbers missing on the Italian side after an avalanche. Six people have already died this summer. A British soldier was killed on Monday. He was part of a well-organised party that was climbing expertly but this year’s heatwave is changing the rulebook. The dangers do not deter the crowds of climbers who still want to reach the roof of Europe but the locals know the score and are issuing warnings. If the current heatwave continues, Mont Blanc and Europe’s other mountains can only get more dangerous.
