Six people have already died this summer. A British soldier was killed on Monday. He was part of a well-organised party that was climbing expertly but this year’s heatwave is changing the rulebook. The dangers do not deter the crowds of climbers who still want to reach the roof of Europe but the locals know the score and are issuing warnings. If the current heatwave continues, Mont Blanc and Europe’s other mountains can only get more dangerous.
