Truck bomb kills 22 near Baghdad

A suicide truck bomb outside a police station in east Baghdad has left at least 22 people dead and 25 injured. The blast left a deep crater in the road. It was a powerful explosion which again targetted the Iraqi security forces.

It appears to be part of a concerted campaign by insurgents. There have been 20 suicide bombs in our near the capital in the past 10 days. Meanwhile there has been an apparent breakthrough on the political front, with reports that one of the main Sunni Muslim parties is set to withdraw its boycott of the process of writing a constitution for Iraq. Sunnis involved in the process had pulled out in protest after two of their colleagues were assassinated last week.
