Bombing suspect shot dead in London tube station

British police have confirmed that a man has been shot dead at an underground station in south London. It is reported that he was one of the bombers involved in yesterday’s attacks. One witness said he saw police shoot the man five times in the incident in Stockwell just after 10am.

Eyewitnesses have reported that the man, wearing an unseasonable long winter coat, leapt over ticket barriers and ran towards the train line before being knocked to the ground and shot. The busy road intersection near the station has been sealed off as police continue their investigation. The Victoria and Northern underground lines which pass through Stockwell station have been suspended. Earlier armed police surrounded a mosque in east London. It was in response to a bomb threat made by telephone just after 10 am. The incident was found to have been a false alarm. Police have warned that more bombers with access to explosives could be ready to strike. Forensic searches continue at the site of yesterday’s attacks.
