world news

| |

A suicide car bomber has claimed the lives of at least 32 people, including a US soldier, in Baghdad. Authorities say the death toll could rise with up to 70 others injured. The majority of the victims were under 15. The assault was targetting a patrol where US forces were handing out sweets to children who had gathered around them. It is reported a vehicle laden with explosives drove up to a Humvee before blowing up. The soldiers had been sent to the area following reports of an alleged suicide bomber driving around Baghdad’s al-Jadida district. Nearby houses were reduced to rubble.
