Bomb attack wounds 20 in Turkish resort

Some 20 people have been hurt in a bomb attack at a popular Turkish tourist resort.

At least two of those wounded were foreigners. One of them is said to be British. Neither man was seriously hurt. Police bomb disposal officers were immediately despatched to the square where the device exploded in a litter bin. It happened in central Cesme, a major resort favoured by both foreign and Turkish tourists. At least one of the casualties is reported to have serious injuries. It is still unclear who was responsible.

A Kurdish separatist group said that it carried out a bombing in another Aegean Sea resort in April that left a police officer dead.

Islamic militants and far-left radicals have also been behind bomb attacks in Turkey in the past.
