Storms end heatwave in parts of Europe

In several European countries people had been hoping for a change in the weather after soaring temperatures.

But in Belgium the downpours brought more relief than was needed. France, Germany and the Netherlands were among the countries lashed by storms. Flooding was widespread in many areas. The south of the Netherlands was particularly hard hit. Firefighters worked through the night to pump water out of some homes. The conditions are expected to stabilise for a while in most areas.
