Parliament remembers VE Day

As part of formal commemorations of the 60th anniversary of the end of WWII, this month’s full sitting of the European Parliament in Strasbourg openened with a special speech by its president, Josep Borrell.

It was also Europe Day. “We are commemorating three events, diverse but linked: it’s been 55 years since the beginning of the European adventure, 60 years since the end of the war and one year since the reunification (EU enlargement, that was). This is a great opportunity to recall our collective duty to memory.” Violin soloist Baiba Skride, from Latvia, played a piece by Bach.
