Turkey blast kills police officer

A blast in western Turkey has killed one police officer and injured four others. They were called in to investigate a suspicious package and were setting up a security cordon when the blast occured.

They were immediately rushed to hospital where the officer died from his wounds. The incident took place at the Aegean resort town on Kusadasi which is popular with foreign tourists. The parcel is said to have been close to a statue of modern Turkey’s founder Mustafa Kemal Attaturk. Police set up control points at the road exits from the tourist town.
