European trade authorities say they hope to have enough data by next week to see about opening a probe into rising textile imports.

Pressure from EU industry to re-impose limits has been building since January 1, when a global quotas regime ended, removing market barriers. The textile lobby EURATEX says the economic impact of a massive increase of Chinese products entering the EU could mean the loss of one million jobs in the sector this year alone.
