The prime minister of Kosovo has been charged with war crimes by the UN tribunal in the Hague. Ramush Haradinaj is resigning before flying to the Netherlands tomorrow. The news came from a senior government source in Pristina. Elected premier of the United Nations-administered entity in December last year, Haradinaj was always a controversial choice.
He is a former commander in the Kosovo Liberation Army which waged an guerrilla war against Serb forces at the end of the 1990s. Twice questioned by investigators working for the international tribunal, Haradinaj has said he believes evidence against him has been fabricated.
