world news

| |

An Italian journalist who was snatched in Iraq has appeared on a video where she is seen pleading for her life. Giuliana Sgrena begs the Italian government to pull its troops from Iraq. She also warns all foreigners to steer clear of the country, they are all considered enemies there she says. To the left of the image the words “Mujahedeen Without Borders” appear in Arabic script.

The 56 year old who was a vocal opponent of the US led war is at least the eighth Italian to have been kidnapped. Up until now Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi’s government has flatly rejected demands to withdraw its soldiers. The reporter was kidnapped on February 4th in Baghdad, and this is the first time she has been seen since. It is not clear when the video was filmed.
