Wall commemorates France’s deported Jews

A wall bearing the names of 76,000 Jews who were deported from France to Nazi death camps has been unveiled in the centre of Paris. The monument has been erected as part of events to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz. Survivors of the Holocaust and victims’ relatives were among those attending the poignant ceremony.

Simone Veil was a young child when she was deported. The former president of the European Parliament spoke of searching for the names of loved-ones on the wall Auschwitz commemoration events will come to a head with a ceremony attended by world leaders at the site of the camp in Poland on Thursday.
